I thank World Magazine and Nazarene Bible College for this report about how a FB comment literally changed the world!

It sounds like a Sandy Sanders novel:  Unknown follower of Christ posts his thoughts on FB and it goes viral and he then does a video and it gets 280,000 hits!  That is what happened to Alex Eklund, freshman at Baylor.  The World article is here and here are a few highlights:

When Alex Eklund updated his Facebook status on Nov. 30, he had no idea it would make him a social media star.

Eklund was studying in the Baylor University library when he noticed a theme among his friends’ status updates. During the airing of the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show on CBS, girls posted updates like “I’m going to have to hit the gym after this” and “I’m going to starve myself for a week.” Although Eklund assumed his friends didn’t mean the statements seriously, they still made him uneasy.

On a whim, Eklund posted in response, “I’d rather have a Proverbs 31 woman than a Victoria’s Secret model.”

For my readers who do not know what a Proverbs 31 woman, here’s the pertinent verses from the KJV:

Proverbs 31:10-31

King James Version (KJV)

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

There’s no mention of hair or face or curves or physical beauty at all (for that go to the Song of Solomon which shows that sex in the right place, between a husband and wife is beautiful) for this woman but you know she is attractive in a winsome fashion!  (BTW, I married a P31 woman and Praise God for it!  I liked the brownie so much I married the girl as I like to say!)

Alex Eklund started a movement:  Here’s his video and he has a website.  And he got help – help from a former Victoria’s Secret model!  Kylie Bissuti is helping Alex out here.  Here is her comments and a highlight or two (and she is stunning – turn your eyes!):

I started my modeling career at the very young age of 14. It was always my dream to become a super model and to be a Victoria’s Secret model was my ultimate goal in life. I felt like I was born to walk the runway and at the age of 19 I achieved that goal. I walked in my first Victoria’s Secret runway show, beating out 10,000 other girls to win the prize of their newest runway angel.  *  *  *  UNTIL I had a very gracious and convicting AWAKENING! The Lord knocked me off my feet and showed me where to find true happiness and self worth. How to be truly beautiful (which has NOTHING to do with external beauty) and most importantly how to truly live a life for Him and His glory and not my own. As I studied the word more, I desired to be more Christ like in the way that I was living. I wanted to be a better example to young women.

Let me add that there is all kinds of beauty as well as I believe beauty pageants and super models tend to show a certain kind of beauty that is not the only way to be attractive.  But the best beauty is the beauty of holiness!  That is the Proverbs 31 woman!  RAH for Alex Eklund!

So, remember Christian, if you are a follower and not a fan, you can live for Christ and you might even start something!  To know more about how to know Jesus and why you need Him (and we all do!), go here!
